HuronSong Christmas Concert

This past weekend featured two outstanding performances, courtesy of Deborah Bailey and her choir HuronSong. I had the pleasure of attending the Sunday afternoon performance at Lakeshore United Church in Goderich, which has become an annual Christmas must for my wife and I. When you view the video below, I think you will agree that this is a choir that really has it together.
Capucine Onn (violin), Jan Searle (Flute), Linda Billson and Rae Melvin (percussion), and Cedric Abday (piano and organ) provided the icing on the cake with their talented accompaniment and performances.

The Sunday performance also featured the Glister Children's Choir, under the direction of Suzanne Mac Vicar, and accompanied by Bailey Porter on the piano. Their young voices blended splendidly with the HuronSong choir in their performance of "In The Bleak Mid-Winter"

Twice a year the HuronSong choir performs concerts in Goderich and Seaforth. These are benefit concerts for the Huron Women's Shelter and the cost to enjoy these wonderful concerts are left up to the audience's discretion. This year's Christmas performances saw record attendance and donations.

Goderich Christmas Parade 2017

If you missed going to the Goderich Santa Claus Parade, you missed a wonderful event. The evening turned out better than years past, as the temperature kept above freezing and the slight drizzle did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd.

The Goderich Laketown Band, under the direction of Hugh McGregor, entertained the crowd prior to the tree lighting ceremony with a selection of Christmas music, getting everyone into the Christmas spirit.

And then the parade! Fire trucks and emergency vehicles with lights blazing and sirens wailing, announced the approach of the parade. There were floats of all shapes and sizes, all brightly lit and filled with Christmas cheer. It was a memorable night.

Remembrance Day 2017

The turnout to this year's Remembrance Day Ceremony was exceptional. Under crisp blue skies, a huge crowd gathered around the cenotaph at Courthouse Square to experience the moving tribute to those who sacrificed all for the freedom we have today. The Goderich Laketown Band was there to play it's part in the service, performing a number of pieces under the direction of Hugh McGregor. In years past, we have weathered rain, sleet, snow, and blowing winds, so this year we were lucky the weather cooperated (although there were a few numb fingers and toes).
