The Goderich Laketown Band is committed to supporting and promoting music in our community. We do this by opening our doors to musicians of all ages and abilities and for those who think they need a little help getting up to speed, we may provide additional training so that they can contribute their musical talent with confidence. The Goderich Laketown Band provides a fun, relaxing environment in which to practice and learn, and we are always looking for new members. You don’t have to live in Goderich to join, but we meet every Monday evening at Goderich District Collegiate Institute at 7:15.
The Goderich Laketown Band supports our musical community by volunteering to perform at local events and by bringing in groups to perform in our Sunday Concert in the Park series. This runs every Sunday, weather permitting, during the summer months at the sound stage in Harbour Park. We bring in musical groups from Huron County and beyond to perform.
We are a volunteer organization. Membership is free, but the experience is priceless.

Band Conductor, Hugh McGregor
Our musical director Hugh McGregor, originally from Windsor, has made Goderich his home for the last four decades. He taught instrumental music at the secondary level in Goderich and Clinton schools. Now, he spends most days staying physically and musically active in the community.
The Goderich Laketown Band was thrilled when Hugh agreed to return as band conductor in 2007. He enjoys playing trombone in a number of area bands: Kincardine Brass Band, Lighthouse Swing Band and his own brass quartet, Suncoast Brass. Hugh also teaches privately both students who are preparing for post secondary music studies and adults who have interest in nurturing their love of music.
As well as spending as much time as possible practicing and performing music, Hugh plays pickleball and golf. He is an active member of the Maitland Trail Association and his church community. Hugh also finds time to travel in Canada, and abroad, several times a year.
2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Goderich Laketown Band
Assistant Conductor, Katie Dockstader
Katie is a Goderich born musician and teacher. She began her musical training at the age of eight when she started taking piano lessons. Four years later, she started taking singing lessons from Cathy Smith and also began playing the trumpet under the direction of Hugh McGregor. Upon entering high school, Katie played in the Goderich District Collegiate Institute's concert band, as well as the jazz band. At the age of 14, she began playing trumpet in the Goderich Laketown Band. (Katie's great-grandfather, George Griffiths, was a founding member of the Laketown Band).
With music as her passion, Katie decided to study music education at the University of Western Ontario, where she received her Bachelor of Music Education with distinction. She went on to teachers college, and upon graduation, taught music in Grimsby, UK. Recently, she has returned to Huron County to continue her teaching career, both in schools and through private instruction.
Currently, Katie is pursuing a Masters Degree in music education at the University of Western Ontario while supply teaching, teaching private lessons, and conducting a church choir.
