2016 Spring and Summer Concert Schedule
Music in the Park Performance Schedule
All performances start at 7:00 PM at the Harbour Park bandshell weather permitting
Sunday, June 19 marks the beginning of the Harbour (Lion's) Park Summer Concert Series sponsored by the Goderich Laketown Band. Our first concert of the season is a fundraiser for Fort McMurray. Bring your lawn chair and your friends and enjoy music by the Laketown Band as they play a variety of swing, march, and popular music medleys. The following Sunday, June 26, will bring a performance by the country/rock duo, The Crippled Ducks, followed by the amazing Lighthouse Swing Band on July 3. All concerts start at 7:00pm and end as the sun sets. There is no fee, just a goodwill donation.
The Outdoor Summer Concert Series has been a part of our town since the summer of 1970 when then-band president Don McMillan approached the town council to ask if they'd be able to provide the band with some kind of structure in Harbour Park. Town councillor Reg Jewel thought about it for a while and remembered that years earlier, at the corner of West Street and Waterloo Street there had been a natural ice arena, and in the summer they used to have wrestling matches there. Reg told Don that the old wrestling ring was still in storage, and wondered if that would work as a bandstand. Don said it would. They set the wrestling ring up in Harbour Park in the same place where the bandstand currently sits. At the time, one of the band's trombonist's was Harold Jeffery (of Jeffery & Son) and he built a back and a collapsible roof onto the ring to protect the band from wind and rain. They used the wrestling ring for about five years and the concerts were immensely popular, so popular that the Lion's Club offered to build the band a new bandstand.
These concerts have been running every Sunday evening for over 40 summers. As a child in the 1980s, I recall many times playing down at the beach and hearing the strains of live music start up, wafting down from above. My sister and I would know that the evening had come and if we climbed the hill to Harbour Park we would be able to find our parents or grandparents there. Sometimes we'd sit on the grass and listen alongside the adults, or else we'd run about and play on the swings or climber while the band played.
These outdoor concerts are part of what makes Goderich a fabulous place to be in the summer and, along with our beaches and cream puffs from Culbert's bakery, are an integral part of what makes up our town's fabric. Listening to live music outside is a great experience, but these concerts can't happen without you, the audience. Please come out with your friends and children and support a community tradition.

Cabaret 2015 held at GDCI was a resounding success. Again I am amazed at the talent living in our community. Guests were entertained with a broad sellection of music while sipping coffee and munching on delicious pastries supplied by the Goderich Laketown Band members. I took these clips using my iPhone, but unfortunately I was unable to record anything from the band because I was too busy tooting my horn.
Performing guests consisted of Women Sing, a musical quartet of very talented ladies singing Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and I’m Going to Wash that Man Right Out of My Hair. Next came Chris Derrough on trumpet accompanied by Rachel Regier followed by the Suncoast Brass, the Extension Chords, and Linda Street. Interspersed between acts were sets by the Goderich Laketown Band under the direction of Hugh McGregor. Click on the image below to see and hear more.
